Delhi is official known as the National Capital Territory, which includes the capital of India i.e. New Delhi. It is the second most popular metropolitan city in India after Mumbai. It is the largest city in terms of area, with a population of 16.3 million (2011). According to survey it is the eighth largest metropolis in the world. Its located on the bank of Yamuna river, at the northern side of India. Many people visits Delhi for their work-purpose. The city is administrated by Government of India and local government of Delhi. NCT is the urban region which have been given the status of NCR i.e. National Capital Region.
The region of NCR is surrounded by the various popular city which has nearly residence of 22.2 million, like Baghpat, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida etc. It is home to the Supreme Court of India, regional Delhi High Court .Magistrate Court and the Sessions Court for criminal cases, has jurisdiction over Delhi. Due to all of these reasons transport in Delhi has important value. Public transport in Delhi includes airport, DCT i.e. Delhi transport corporation Bus station, Auto rickshaws, which newly includes Delhi- Metro. All of these transport modes have their uniqueness.
The Airport of Delhi is well known as ‘Indira Gandhi International airport’ (IGI). Its situated in the southeastern corner of the city alongside of the Delhi-Gurgaon highway. It is the busiest airport in south Asia and serves as both connection i.e. Domestic connection and International connection. It has been witnessing the substantial expansion and modernization by a consortium led by GMR.. In 2005-2006 IGI recorded traffic more than 20.4 million passengers, This traffic leads to a second airport by 2012-2013. The airport, being named as Taj International Aviation Hub, is proposed be located in Jewar in Greater Noida. It would be 75 km from IGI airport. IGI airport serves as home to various Indian airlines like Air India, Air India Regional, IndiGo, JetLite, Spice Jet, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines, Go Air. About 80 airlines serves from IGI airport. It operates on two terminals, terminal 1 for domestic connections and terminal 2 for international connections.
Terminal one which operate for domestic airlines, currently it is used by airlines like Go Air , Indigo, and Spice jet which has split into two terminal C and D, terminal C is use for departure and terminal D for arrival of flight.
Terminal two was built on 1st May 1986 which was showing desperate need of repair. Later on entire terminal has been upgraded, repainted, floors have been refitted with tiles, walls and ceilings now have new surfaces, this terminal operates for international airlines
Terminal three is the newly opened terminal which has inaugurated on 3rd July 2010. All international airlines shifted their operations to the new terminal in late July 2010, and all full service domestic carriers mid November onwards. The arrivals are equipped with 18 baggage carousels. All the international and domestic operations have started operating from terminal 3 now.
Apart from these terminals there are two special terminals as Hajj terminal and Cargo terminal
Hajj terminal provide all the flights that moved to the annual Muslim Pilgrimage of Hajj. It has a capacity of approximately 10 million passengers per year. Cargo terminal handles all cargo operation. It has got an award for its excellent and organized cargo handling system in 2007. Cargo terminal is managed by Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India Pvt.ltd
