Geography and Climate:

History:

The name Kashmir means ‘desiccated land’. In the history of this city, it is stated that Kashmir Valley was formally a lake. The splendour and mental wellness of the Kashmir valley is a legendary. As per the saying of a great Sanskrit poet Kalidas, Kashmir is “more beautiful than the heaven and is the donor of supreme bliss and happiness.” Kashmir’s greatest historian Kalhan is the best place in Himalayas. It is a country where the sun shines mildly. As per the saying of British historian Sir Walter Lawrence “The valley is an emerald set in pearls”. It is also a land of lakes, green turf, clear streams, magnificent trees and mighty mountains where the air is always cool, and the water is sweet.

Demographics:

Majority of the people in this city are called Kashmiri, and they speak the Kashmiri Language. Many Muslim community people are also there in Kashmir. Around 95% of the population of Kashmir is of Brahmins who are known as Kashmiri Pandits. Such a variety of religions in one city, proves the ‘Unity In Diversity’ statement.
