Vaishno Devi city – Kashmir

Kashmir is well known all over the world for its beauty. Kashmir is heaven in Himalayas, with snow covered mountains background, fresh water lakes, its Shikaras or small wooden boats and houseboats. Kashmir is also famous for its Vaishno Devi temple. Peoples in various cities, states and countries came to Kashmir for taking the blessing of Mata Vaishno Devi, who is also known as Mata Rani and Vaishnavi.  Mata Vaishno Devi shrine is one of the most spiritual and Hindu Pilgrimage desired destination in India.

Vaishno Devi temple is near the town of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir in the Reasi district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and is one of the most revered places of worship in India. The shrine is at a distance of 12 km approximately from Katra. This cave is at a distance of 61 km from Jammu.  After TirumalaVenkateswara temple Vaishno Devi is second most visited religious shrine in India. Vaishno Devi is situated in Trikuta Mountain forming a part of lower Himalayas. Katra town at the foot of the Trikuta hills is the base camp for Vaishno Devi shrine.

History

According to swampfire, MaaVaishno Devi was born in south India in the home of RatnakrSagar. Her worldly parents had childless for a long time. One night before the birth of the Divine child Ratnakar had promised that he would not interfere in whatever his child wants. Ma Vaishno Devi was called Trikuta as a child. Later she was called Vaishni Devi because of her taking birth from Lord Vishnu’s lineage.

About Temple

In the temple there are three images of deities, the Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati. People belives that anybody who walks up to the shrine of Vaishno Devi to ask for a boon rarely goes back disappointed. Many people visit here year after year to pay obeisance, regardless of their faith or belief, creed or class, caste or religion, for Mata Vaishno Devi transcends all such barriers.

The shrine is about to deity Vaishno representing in the configuration of a five and half feet tall rock structure and three “Pindis” or heads. All kind of people, whether they are rich or poor, young or old, sick or healthy take challenging trek from Katra to get to this holy place.
