Kashmir’s Seasons

Set like a jeweled crown on the map of India, Kashmir is a multi-faceted diamond, changing its view with the seasons, but each of its views are always extravagantly beautiful. Spring : March – May

Summer : June – August

In summer the melting snow of the mountains fill the brooks and rivers with gushing water. Only a touch of white peaks on the top crags tells the tale of winter past. Characteristics of summer are the floating gardens on the Dal Lake, trout fishing, trekking in the Himalayas, golf, water sports and bird watching etc. light woolens may be required to wear out of Srinagar. At this time temperature is min 14.4 degree centigrade to max 30.8 degree centigrade.


Autumn : September – November

Summer gives way to autumn. Nature packs up for the season with abandon leaving a trail of gold mellowed leaves. Red fire like glowing Chinar leaves start falling. One of the famous highlights of autumn is the saffron fields of Pampore, for which Kashmir is very famous. At this time temperature is min 2.0 degree centigrade to max 28.3 degree centigrade. Winter : December – February

By December the winter season starts to fall and covers the valley to hibernate. But at the same time skiing at Gulmarg and the Himalayan chakore and wild duck shooting season starts which tourists have been enjoying since the British Raj. Also if by any chance the Dal Lake freezes then one can enjoy the ice skating too. From 1987 heli-skiing has also started in certain new areas.
